OUTSOURCING THE PMO FUNCTION
PMOs are consistently being challenged to provide additional value to their organizations. To meet business demands, projects must be completed faster and cheaper. The business wants more transparency and they look to the PMO to optimize project resources. A well-managed Project Management Office (PMO) can ensure successful project delivery and enables an organization to meet evolving challenges, functions, and services by the consistent application of defined project management processes, resource planning, forecasting etc. We can help your organization rise to the challenge.
OPERATING A PMO
If project management is not a core competency, we recommend our customers to consider outsourcing the PMO function. PMConsultants can work in partnership with your organization to understand your strategic goals and establish a structure to achieve them. We will evaluate your current setup and develop a deployment roadmap incorporating your organization’s culture and operating practices. We will work with you to identify, prioritize, and establish a set of fundamental PMO functions and services. Deployment includes establishing governance standards, developing the PMO Charter and communications plan, identifying resource needs and performance measures, incorporating the right amount of repeatable delivery processes to fit your culture, and improving the competencies of your staff through training and mentoring. Our consultants can also operate from your premises to manage the PMO using proven techniques and methodologies. Constant communication & implementing a well planned organizational change management program will be crucial for success and is a core tenet of our PMO operating model. Performance measures are collectively established upfront with you, and progress toward established goals is continually evaluated via quality and performance reviews.
PROJECT OFFICE DEVELOPMENT
An internal Project Management Office (PMO) gives organizations the ability to achieve consistently successful results across their entire portfolio of projects, thereby creating a foundation that can turn project management into a competitive advantage. Whether your organization is just beginning to explore the benefits of a formal PMO, or your existing PMO is not achieving the intended results, we can help take your PMO to the next level.
A Project Office fulfills two essential roles :
> It provides enterprise-level project management services
> It serves as a project management center of excellence
Implementing a formalized project management process in an organization that has not used a structured approach to project planning and control can present significant challenges. Our phased approach to implementation helps companies overcome resistance to change, allows lessons learned in early phases to be incorporated in the systems installed in later phases, and ensures that a solid foundation of project-level data is available prior to rolling-up enterprise-level information.
We develop a PMO in 4 phases:
> Remediates current, at-risk projects
> Sets the stage for the Installation phase
This phase includes the selection of pilot projects that have the potential for near-term successes, and the communication of those success stories to the organization.
THE PROJECT-LEVEL INSTALLATION PHASE :
> Provides a structured project planning and control process for all targeted projects
> Creates the project management infrastructure necessary to support consistent, successful application of project management techniques by the Project Office on future projects
> Provides training and mentoring to the Project Office staff
THE ENTERPRISE-LEVEL INSTALLATION PHASE :
> Creates the infrastructure necessary to support business decision-making based on schedule, resource, and cost information “rolled-up” from the entire portfolio of projects
> Transfer the day-to-day responsibility of developing and maintaining individual project plans from consultants to the Project Office staff
THE MAINTENANCE PHASE :
> Transfers the responsibility of supporting all of the project management requirements of the organization to the Project Office staff
> Ensures long-term continuity by establishing project management as a core competency and an essential function within the organization
